Measurement methodology
How MapsDoc measures business visibility
Useful reporting answers three questions: where can customers find you, what has changed, and what should we improve next? Here is how we collect and interpret the evidence.
Measurement principles
- We distinguish what we measured from what we recommend.
- Reports explain what was checked and when.
- We label older, incomplete or unavailable information so you can judge the findings fairly.
- Visibility measurements describe discoverability and trust signals; they do not guarantee rankings, leads, bookings or revenue.
Signals that may be included
What we can measure depends on the report, your plan and the information available for your business. We may check:
- Whether your public business profile is accurate, complete and active.
- Your reviews: how many, how recent, what customers rate you and whether they receive a response.
- Where your business appears for relevant local searches across the area we check.
- Whether key website pages load and clearly explain your business and services.
- Selected AI answers to questions potential customers might ask.
- Customer actions reported by your connected business accounts, where available.
- MapsDoc care records showing completed work, evidence and next priorities.
Your free Health Check
Your free Health Check gives you a snapshot of your visibility and practical priorities, without an overall numerical score. Each Maps heatmap checks the selected search from the marked locations. Google Search’s local pack and sampled AI recommendations are reported separately because they answer different questions.
A missing measurement does not mean a poor ranking. We show that a business was outside the checked results only when those results were successfully collected. AI answers are a sample of particular questions at a particular time, not a guarantee of what every customer will see.
Monthly care measurement
Your Visibility Score is a single 0–100 measure of how discoverable and trusted your business looks in local search, drawn from validated signals such as your Google Business Profile activity, your reputation and reviews, and how often you appear in local results. It isn't a guarantee of rankings or revenue. Each Monthly Health Report explains the signals, reporting period, and data sources behind the score.
Freshness and comparison
We compare like with like: the same type of search, location and measurement over suitable periods. If a previous measurement is missing, a period is incomplete or the method changes, we explain why a comparison is unavailable.
Human review
Automation helps collect and organize the information. MapsDoc reviews the business context, evidence and priorities before presenting an assessment or significant recommendation. You confirm the facts and approve any regulated or treatment-specific claims about your business.
What the method does not claim
Search platforms, competitors and customer demand all change. These measurements help us choose useful work and track progress. They cannot prove that a single change caused a booking or predict a future ranking.
See these principles applied in the sample Health Check and the illustrative Monthly Health Report.
